Whats happened to the Wed night rides? Is there a TT season still going on i didnt know about? Everyone dying to get back to watch Champions League games?

In the last 2 years there was a sensible breaking up the group into smaller ones if loads of riders out, with a fast, medium, slow etc.

The current chaos has people bombing off (its not a race!!) or waiting for others; no chance to warm up; no proper rotating (or maybe understanding about what should be going on); and more importantly creating danger because the pace is chopping and changing so fast, which probably contributed to Ellie coming off tonight (is she ok?). Also some were overtaking on inside!?! Just bloody dangerous

I think there needs to be a clear lead taken when we convene, as previous years. Its difficult to find a happy medium, and maybe Im over reacting, but the contrast is enormous.

I am very concerned at what I have heard firstly I would confirm I have spoken to Dave (Ellie's dad) who confirms she is OK lost a bit of skin and has a few bruises but nothing serious.
Ellie I hope this has not put you off riding with us and trust you will be back out with us next week.

These rides are not supposed to be hard training rides, if that's what you want fine go and do your own thing do not spoil it for others

Lets have smaller groups riding sensibly as groups not eye balls out trying to drop people. Groups should ride in 2 lines and the pace of the outside line should NOT change its the inside line that slows down to allow the outside line to move forward a change take place. Its easy to split up especially on the hill how about trying to ride in a group up the hill while all seated in the saddle sounds easy try it next week can you do it ???

We need to encourage new riders, we need to teach new riders how to ride in a group, carry on riding as tonight and over the last couple of weeks will do neither.

Now I do accept I ham writting this all on only what I have been told I was not there but there is not smoke with out fire so please can next weeks ride be run in a much more organised manner ie smaller groups riding together and lets try and help / encourage new members and most importantly no more accidents.

Sorry because of work commitments I can not make the next 2 weeks but then I will be back out on Wednesdays  and  hopefully  by then everything will be back to how it should be.

Sorry for my rant but these rides where set up to be social rides not a road race lets keep it that way

To all concern
In my defence ,I did say to all who were listening, to back off the pace & to keep the groups smaller .As we had a new girl riding last night I stayed in the
slower group to help, but watching the first group as they went by, they seemed to be all over the place & not together, all I can say is next week, each group will  have a leader to keep them together, but I will need help.

I haven't been out on any of these club rides this year, but I know last year Colin, Graham, Richard and myself constantly had to slow the groups down, and from what I remember most of the people smashing the groups up weren't even club members. These guys don't race in the season and just see the club rides as an opportunity to prove themselves to others, hence many serious riders train alone or in a select bunch especially at this time of the year.

Richard, you should not feel any need to say 'in my defence' when you were playing a responsible role.

Surely there were riders in the faster group who could have jointly used their experience and influence to keep it steady.

These ride provide a great opportunity for people to ride/train together (and only a lovely crisp night yesterday), and what a pity if that opportunity isn't used effectively by and for all to benefit.

Eddie, i quite agree, Richard has no need to think he is responsible. There were a few of us trying to slow it down and get a structure, it just seemed impossible to get continuity.

I wonder if we need to direct those that havent been out before to a PW web page re purpose of the rides, and some practical info about 'how to ' rotate etc. It may seem obvious etc, but i do remember the first time i went out a couple of years ago, that theres not necessarily the time or place for the 'leader' of the group to let the newer riders know what is expected before they set off, or how to do it.

Though an advocate of knowledge through experience, it would help those out first time etc, and there would be no excuse including testosterone!

I am new to Poole Wheelers.
I was in the slow group and my group looked after me well. They all looked after me. Thanks to all concerned. I will be back next Wednesday, unless it's tipping it down with rain. I was even asked to join a group for a cycle and swim on Saturdays. Unfortunately I had to decline as I work. Thanks again to my small group.
